Eruca sativa is the familiar salad-rocket name; also known as Eruca vesicaria. It is an annual leafy plant, distinct from perennial Diplotaxis tenuifolia. Eruca sativa has white flowers.

Flowers and foliage

Cool conditions favour the leaf stage. Hot weather encourages flowering, changing leaf flavour and limiting further leaf growth, so seasonal response matters to its botanical description.

Annual leaf rosettes and flowering

Rocket salad, Pronto and Darkita are separate seed references for resellers. A named selection provides more identity than simply “rocket” when comparing bulk quantities across the two rocket species.
