Common – Eruca sativa

Eruca sativa is the familiar salad-rocket name; arugula is also known as Eruca vesicaria. It is an annual leafy plant, distinct from perennial Diplotaxis tenuifolia. Cool conditions favour the leaf stage. Hot weather encourages flowering, changing leaf flavour and limiting further leaf growth, so seasonal response matters to its botanical description. The catalogue average is 600 seeds per gram, a useful reference when comparing bulk quantities.
