Rumex acetosa is a perennial sorrel with arrow-shaped leaves and a short rootstock.
Flowers and foliage
The backward-pointing lobes at the leaf base help distinguish its foliage. Slender, branched flowering stems rise above the leaves later in the season. It belongs to Polygonaceae, the same family as the red-veined Rumex sanguineus.
