Brassica rapa includes different vegetable forms, so its species name alone does not define a seed assortment.

Botanical characteristics

Turnips vary in root shape and colour; the catalogue also contains named Asian leafy references. Cool conditions and moisture-retentive soil suit turnips, whose young leaves are edible as well as the roots.

Root and leaf forms

For seed resellers, Purple Top Milan provides a turnip reference alongside Tatsoi Green and Mizuna Green. Separate the vegetable form before comparing varieties in a bulk selection; these entries are not interchangeable types of cabbage.
