Digitalis purpurea usually forms a leaf rosette before producing tall stems of hanging, tubular flowers.
Botanical characteristics
This explains its typical biennial cycle, although selected strains can flower earlier. Moist, well-drained soil and protection from intense afternoon sun suit it. All plant parts are toxic; this is ornamental seed, not an edible-flower reference.
Rosettes, flower spikes and selected strains
The Foxy group is documented for shorter stature and first-year flowering from seed. Excelsior mixed is a different listed group for resellers. The Foxy description should not be extended to the whole wholesale assortment.
