Viola cornuta is a perennial violet, with a narrow spur projecting behind the flower.
Botanical characteristics
Many garden selections involve hybrid backgrounds and broaden the colour range beyond the botanical species. Cool conditions favour flowering; prolonged summer heat can reduce it. Species and hybrid descriptions should therefore remain distinct.
Botanical violets and garden hybrids
Arkwright Ruby has maroon flowers with a yellow centre; Blue Perfection has pale blue flowers with a white centre. These are useful named comparisons for reseller seed ranges.
