Lychnis viscaria is an older name for Viscaria vulgaris, a perennial in Caryophyllaceae.

Flowers and foliage

The upper stems are conspicuously sticky, explaining the viscaria name. Flowers form a narrow, interrupted panicle above oblong to narrow leaves. This combination of stem surface and inflorescence structure is more informative than flower colour alone.
