Armeria maritima forms evergreen tufts of narrow, grass-like leaves, with rounded flower heads held above them.
Flowers and foliage
This coastal perennial tolerates salt exposure but needs drainage: wet soil can rot the roots. Its compact foliage and raised flower stems give a different outline from spreading, mat-forming rock plants.
