Apium graveolens belongs to the carrot family and includes cultivated celery and celeriac. The wild form is an upright biennial or perennial with aromatic, lobed leaves and small white to greenish-white flowers arranged in umbels. It favours full sun and moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Celery and celeriac are distinct cultivated forms within this species.
