Garden rhubarb is a perennial with large leaf blades carried on thick petioles from a basal clump. Rheum rhabarbarum has flowers arranged in panicles.
Botanical characteristics
The petiole supports the blade and is distinct from it. Victoria has greenish stalks flushed red, rather than uniformly red stalks. This colour description is more precise for the named reference than a generic red-rhubarb label.
Victoria stalk colour and perennial habit
Rhubarb Victoria is the named seed reference offered to resellers and garden centres.
