Summer savory – Satureja hortensis

Satureja hortensis is an aromatic annual, unlike the woody perennial winter savory. It renews its growth from seed rather than retaining a permanent shrub framework. Sunny conditions and a light, drained soil suit it; waterlogging is less suitable. The annual cycle is a useful distinction when arranging savory catalogue entries.
