Galium odoratum is a rhizomatous perennial in Rubiaceae. Narrow leaves form whorls around the stems, with small white flowers above them.
Botanical characteristics
Crushed and dried foliage develops a hay-like scent. Moist, drained soil and partial to full shade suit it; summer dryness can bring dormancy. It therefore occupies a different ecological setting from sunny, dry-soil herbs.
Whorled foliage in shade
Sweet Woodruff is the listed seed reference for this shade-associated species.
