Nemophila insignis is a synonym of Nemophila menziesii, a low annual with soft stems and open, saucer-shaped flowers.

Botanical names and group identity

It is associated with cooler growing conditions; prolonged heat and humidity shorten its useful season. Consistent moisture with drainage helps explain its different requirements from drought-adapted summer annuals.
