Moluccella laevis is an annual in Lamiaceae. The green bells are enlarged calyces surrounding much smaller white flowers.
Botanical characteristics
They remain conspicuous after flowering and later turn beige, explaining the plant’s use in dried arrangements. The Irish common name refers to the green appearance rather than an Irish botanical origin.
