Iceplant – Mesembryanthemum crystallinum

Mesembryanthemum crystallinum is a succulent annual or biennial with spreading stems and broad leaves. Pale flowers can age pink. Its fruiting capsules illustrate a characteristic of Mesembryanthemum: they open when moist and close as they dry. This moisture-linked mechanism gives a more precise botanical description than the ice-plant common name alone. The catalogue average is 5000 seeds per gram, a useful reference when comparing bulk quantities.
