Black mustard – Brassica nigra

Brassica nigra is an upright annual with larger lower leaves and smaller, narrower leaves higher on the stem. Yellow four-petalled flowers are followed by slender pods that split to release dark brown or black seeds. The change in leaf size along the stem and the dark seed colour help identify this mustard among related Brassicaceae.
