Purple – Thymus serpyllum

The following description concerns Thymus serpyllum generally. Thymus serpyllum is a low, creeping subshrub with small aromatic leaves. Short flowering stems rise above the spreading woody growth, carrying small pink to purple tubular flowers. Its ground-hugging habit distinguishes it from upright thymes. Drainage matters because persistently wet conditions can cause rot even in an otherwise drought-tolerant plant.
