Lychnis chalcedonica is a synonym of Silene chalcedonica, an upright perennial in Caryophyllaceae.

Botanical names and group identity

The clustered flowers have deeply divided petal tips, explaining the cross-like outline behind its common names. Moisture with drainage suits it, while taller stems may need shelter or support. This floral structure distinguishes it from a generic red-flowered perennial.
