Salvia coccinea – Scarlet

The following description concerns Salvia coccinea generally. Salvia coccinea is perennial in warm climates but treated as an annual where frost ends growth. Its tubular flowers sit in loose whorls along upright stems. Although the species name means scarlet, garden selections include other colours. Water during dry spells can sustain flowering even though established plants tolerate some drought.
