Zanzibar – Carthamus tinctorius

Carthamus tinctorius has upright stems, firm toothed leaves and rounded flower heads surrounded by pointed bracts. The tubular florets are distinct from the broad ray petals of a daisy. Botanical descriptions record yellow to red corollas and often small spine-tipped leaf teeth, so it should not be described as uniformly spineless.
